Tourism is a major economic activity. Its impact on economic growth and employment in Europe and the Mediterranean countries is crucial in the actual political and monetary crises times.
Dealing with cultural and natural heritage, as well as contemporary cultures and traditions of our countries, the tourism industry exemplifies the need to reconcile economic growth, willingness to increase the number of tourists and Sustainable Development of our destination management.
Sustainability for tourism covers many items: the responsible use of natural resources, the need to consider the environmental impact of our activities (waste production, impact on water, ground and biodiversity, etc.) the use of "clean" energies, the protection of our heritage and the preservation of the natural and cultural integrity of tourism destinations, the quality and the sustainability of jobs created, the local economic benefits, the welcome quality and the awareness of tourists for respecting the places they visit.
In these areas, as in many others, ICT can be a powerful leverage to achieve sustainability goals for a rich and diverse tourism around the Euro-Mediterranean basin.
Telecom Valley, a non-profit association of ICT key players based in Sophia Antipolis, is a community of professionals promoting the development of internet, mobility and usages within the Euro-Mediterranean,area.
All its members are very pleased to welcome you on this m-Tourism day.
Sharing experiences, presenting projects, panels will be part of the program, the intervention of the French innovation ministry and the Sophia Antipolis Foundation will help you to understand how better use the ICT for sustainable tourism.
The end of the afternoon will give the opportunity for some of you to show their products or begin discussions for new collaborations.
We hope you will attend massively and will be satisfied at the end of the day.
